Individual Psychotherapy

I offer brief and long-term psychotherapy for adults and adolescents.

Psychotherapy is a unique space where you can share your personal truths, both with yourself and another person. It is typically a collaborative process, with the client taking an active role in their own healing and personal growth. Psychotherapy can be helpful for reducing the impact of mental health symptoms (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc.), and for facilitating meaningful long-term personal growth.

Modalities include:

  • Psychodynamic/Relational

  • Humanistic (includes existential work)

  • Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (helpful for those who have experienced a single traumatic event or a series of traumatic events)

Support for Parents

Using a strengths-based, culturally-sensitive approach, I help parents develop their ability to support their teens.

Teenagers can be insightful, deep, inquisitive, caring, and brilliant but almost universally unpredictable. At around age 12, most people gain the ability to perform the complex mental operations that characterize human ingenuity. Still, impulse control and emotional regulation abilities do not fully develop until around age 25. I enjoy helping teens adjust to life changes, get their emotions under control, and explore their identities. I typically check in with parents every one to two months to monitor their teen’s progress in therapy and any safety concerns, and to provide support with parenting.

Preparing for gender-affirming medical care

I provide assessment and preparatory counseling for those seeking gender-affirming medical care.

Many insurance companies and physicians require documentation of gender dysphoria or incongruence prior to starting gender-affirming medical care. Even when documentation of medical necessity is not a requirement of your preparation for gender-affirming medical care, pre-surgical counseling may be helpful for improving your ability to cope with the emotional and systemic difficulties inherent to gender-affirming procedures.

I am open to using an informed-consent or shared decision-making model to help clients prepare for gender-affirming medical care. Together we will select the most appropriate approach for your transition goals.

Who I serve

  • I offer long-term and brief individual psychotherapy for adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, healing from past trauma, and a variety of other issues.

In my experience, receiving genuine care and speaking openly about one’s thoughts and feelings are two of the most important factors in psychotherapy. I recognize the enormity of accepting help and am honored you are considering me along your therapeutic journey.

  • It is clear that teens are experiencing an unprecedented amount of stress. Working in a school-based setting in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic has given me a first-hand look at the academic, social, and emotional pressures that teens are facing. I enjoy helping teens overcome these challenges using a strengths-based and relational approach.

I also find it important to consult frequently with parents of minor clients to provide parenting support, and to make sure that our treatment goals are in alignment with their child’s needs.

  • I have many years of experience working with adolescents, adults, and parents from the South Asian and Middle Eastern communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In particular, I have supported many high-school-aged students who have grown up in the United States to navigate complex relationships with parents and extended family who have had different upbringings abroad.

  • As a queer person, I feel privileged to be awarded the opportunity to serve members of the LGBTQ+ community as a professional. Although nobody is wholly defined by their gender identity or sexual orientation, it is essential to acknowledge how these identities often affect other aspects of life.
